Bolivia is a popular destination for climbers and offers a variety of climbs to suit every skill level and budget. With over 1000 summits above 5000 meters it is considered by many climbers to be one of the best mountain climbing destinations in the world. In addition to its other attractions and fascinating culture, climbing in Bolivia is often considerably cheaper than other popular mountaineering destinations.
Departure at 7:30am to the Quebrada de Palala, surrounded by red hills. We will see the spectacular rocks of el Sillar, continuing to the mining areas of Nazarenito, Chilcobija, Cerrillos, Polulos, Rio San Pablo de Lipez, San Antonio de Lipez (4660m.s.n.m), and ancient region of the seventeenth century (accommodation).
We Climb the sleeping (non-active) volcano (peak at 6008 m), which has active fumaroles rising from 1 to 2 cm per year. This is the highest area of southern Bolivia. We ascend with local guides, after 6 hours we arrive at Quetena (accommodation).
Departure to Laguna Hedionda, we continue to Laguna Kollpa, Salar Chalviri, Aguas Termales medicinal baths of Polques, Laguna Verde (emerald green), Volcan Licancabur(5916m), can be climbed (1 day more), Dali Desert, Geysers "Sol de Mañana"at 5000m with bubbling lava and fumes of sulfur, and the infamous Laguna Colorada (Red Lagoon). The lake has as deep orange – red hue from red algae and other microorganisms that thrive in the water. Surrounding the lake are large white deposits of borax, rolling grasslands and purple mountains. With luck you will see Puna Flamingos (also known as James’ Flamingo), and rare bird, native to the Andes and Altiplano. Huallajara (accommodation).
The tours crosses the Desert of Siloli where is the famous Arbol de Piedra (Stone Tree). Then continues along the Lagoons Ramadita, Honda, Ch’arkota, Hedionda where a sulfide (rotten egg) odor emanates of volcanic activity , sanctuary of the 3 varieties of flamingos, Lagoon Cañapa, Viewpoint of the Volcano Ollague(always active), Salar de Chiguana, San Juan(visit mummies the cemetery 10Bs per person) to conclude the day in Puerto Chuvica (accommodation).
We go to the Salt Flats de Uyuni (3650m.s.n.m), Incahuasi or Fish Island, consisting of a cactus-covered hill up to 12m high with over a thousand years, the first Hotel de Sal (museum), Ojos de Agua (Eyes in the Water), piles of salt drawn and processed in Colchani mines, for human consumption and used in traditional building, Cemetery of the first railway locomotives and wagons in South America, ends 13:00pm in Uyuni .
