Terra Autentica
Terra Autentica

The highest of these peaks is the Head of the Condor to 5,700 m, is demanding and is the Matterhorn massif of Bolivia. This program includes Cabeza del Condor, Small Alpamayo (5370m), the White Pyramid (5230m), Illusion (5330m). Each peak is accessible in one day from base camp on the banks of the lagoon Chia Khota (Black Lake), with magnificent views "Head of the Condor" and its two wings. Hans Ertl described his camp in Condoriri in 1953 as "a dream".

Day 1

La Paz - Base Camp

A two hour drive from La Paz to Lago Tuni, and up to the base camp for Condoriri, where we will have our first views of Cabeza del Cóndor and Las Alas (The Wings), the rock formation that gave the mountain its name.
2 hours driving, 3 hours walking.

Day 2

Pico Tarija - Pequeño Alpamayo

Early departure (5.00am). Our first route is to climb the Pico Tarija (5,300m) beyond which we will continue down then back up to PEQUEÑO ALPAMAYO (5,350m). We then return to base camp.

Day 3

Pico Ilusion

Early start to reach the summit of Pico Ilusion (5,350m). It is not a high climb but the approach gives us the the opportunity to practise different skills (eg. glacial traverse) and helps in our preparation for the Cabeza del Condor the following day.

Day 4

Summit of the Cabeza del Condor

A long day to reach the summit of the Cabeza del Condor. The terrain begins on very loose rock until we reach the ice. The ascent starts relatively gently until we enter into a ice canyon where the climb becomes more technical. Once reaching the summit, we return by the same route to our base camp.

Day 5

Tuni - La Paz

Time to break camp and return to Estancia Tuni, where our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to La Paz.
